South Australian Seafood Industry Hall of Fame
Andrew Puglisi – 2026 Hall of Fame Inductee
Affectionately known as “Pugs”, Andrew Puglisi is a fifth-generation fisherman whose career has helped shape the modern South Australian seafood industry. Spanning more than four decades, his journey reflects a rare combination of hands-on expertise, innovation and market leadership.
Andrew began his career in the Spencer Gulf prawn fishery, progressing from deckhand to skipper while helping advance sustainable fishing practices that contributed to the fishery’s MSC certification. During his time in the industry, he served for 21 years as a committee representative of the Spencer Gulf and West Coast Prawn Association Inc., sharing valuable fisheries knowledge and supporting members across pre and post harvest operations.
He later played an important role in the early development of Southern Bluefin Tuna ranching, working alongside industry pioneers and the Eyre Regional Development Board to help create new pathways into international markets.
This success with the Eyre Peninsula Regional Development Board, led to him supporting the growth of the mussel industry in Port Lincoln, as well as the development of oysters, prawns, abalone, kingfish, wild-caught fish and squid across the region.
His most significant impact came in the mussel industry. From modest beginnings in 2000, Andrew helped grow production from around 60 tonnes to more than 2,300 tonnes annually, co-founding Eyre Peninsula Seafoods and building it into a leading national business. His focus on consistent quality from farm to plate, and strong relationships with leading chefs, retailers and global buyers successfully positioned South Australian mussels as a premium product.
Known for his entrepreneurial mindset and ability to adapt, Andrew has also been a generous industry advocate, sharing knowledge, building connections and championing the Eyre Peninsula seafood brand on a national stage. His popular YouTube video series “Pug’s Kitchen” was an integral part of showcasing the quality of the mussels he produced with national and international audiences.
Following the sale of Eyre Peninsula Seafoods to Yumbah Aquaculture in 2023, Andrew moved into a Sales role with the company before officially retiring in June 2025. However, his passion for the industry and contribution to the community continue to this day.
His induction into the Hall of Fame recognises a lifetime of leadership, innovation and lasting impact on the Australian seafood industry.
