Stay Afloat – Supporting the Mental Health and Wellbeing of the Seafood Industry

A program dedicated to improving the mental health and wellness of the Australian seafood industry. For Industry – By Industry

Stay Afloat Australia is the national mental health program for the Australian seafood industry, run by Seafood Industry Australia (SIA) and supported with funding from the Australian Government Department of Health’s Mental Health Emergency Response.

Thanks to funding through the South Australian and Australian Government's Algal Bloom Summer Plan, Stay Afloat has been expanded in South Australia to provide additional vital support to our sector during the algal bloom. This program will continue in South Australia until March 2026.

How we can Assist:

  • Mental health awareness to build understanding and confidence in recognising when someone may need support.

  • Confidential wellbeing check-ins and a safe space to talk through challenges.

  • Support navigating services and connecting you with professional help such as counselling, financial guidance or community health support.

  • Peer-based support through Trusted Advocates who understand the pressures of fishing and seafood industries.

  • Practical tools and strategies for managing stress, uncertainty and workplace or family pressures.

  • Support for families, partners and friends — because wellbeing impacts the whole community.
